Today’s video post answers a question I received from a reader. The question was what does it mean for a hitter to “stay on top of the ball?” Staying on top on the ball, in my opinion, is one of the most important concepts of hitting. I hope I explain it well enough.
Tomorrow will be another video post on what it means to stay on top of the ball as a pitcher.

Keep those questions coming!
Excellent Instruction/Explanation…I always felt the need to "stay on top", and coached young players to do so. However, I never had it explained this way, or had a drill to practice the concept.
Thanks Coach.

Really nice explanation dude. Let us always stay on the top of the ball.. 🙂
This is the worst thing you could possibly teach any player at any level. You want them to swing with the plane of the pitch. Get the bat barrel in the plane. Have you never watched a pro hitter? Geezer this is unbelievable! !
Hi Kip and thanks for the comment. This post has gotten a lot of feedback which is why I updated it a couple times. Here is one of them – http://www.baseballbytheyard.com/swing-down-to-the-ball/. Here is another – http://www.baseballbytheyard.com/hitters-dont-stay-on-top-of-the-ball/. Thanks again
