Avoid a line drive to the mouth

Here’s the situation … bases loaded, two outs, full count.  Runners are all off at the start of the pitch.  The runner on third base is charging home on the pitch which, of course, could very well be hit directly at him.  Nothing would ruin your day more quickly than being that guy coming down the line from third base.  Because of this danger, all third base runners need to know how to manage this situation safely.  It all involves learning the proper path to take on the pitch.

A big loop is the path you want.

The photo above shows the dangerous and therefore wrong option in RED.  The correct path is in GREEN.  Taking that path will get you in motion and closer to home plate without the threat of losing any teeth.  It’s certainly the round-about route but trust me, it’s worth it.

PS:  In case you were not sure, the runner would not be out even though he is clearly out of the base path because nobody is attempting to tag him.  If he did it to avoid a tag then he’d be out.
