Look for this before snap throws to third

In May, 2011, I wrote a post titled Snap throws to third base.  I explained that the defensive team needs to look for runners who are not properly timing their plant foot landing (right foot ALWAYS!) as the pitch is crossing home plate.  Some runners will make the mistake of landing too late on that right foot which keeps their momentum moving towards home after the catcher catches the pitch.  Other runners might do this as the pitch crosses the plate…

This scenario is even better since a runner in this position is completely facing home plate.  If the catcher comes up throwing to third, there is no way the runner will be able to get back if he is in this position with his left foot forward.

If you see this, flash the sign for a snap throw and nail him on the next pitch!
