Wasted motion

One of the best ways to improve your game is to cut out any wasted motion. It doesn’t matter if you are a pitcher, fielder, hitter, or base runner, cutting out wasted motion in your mechanics is going to allow you to do things faster. Unfortunately, many players don’t even realize they do the things you are telling them to cut out.
Too many times we coaches try to pass on high level instruction when in reality, many players just need very simple adjustments that don’t involve a lot of thinking or complexity. Often it’s just removing some small amount of movement that is throwing off the timing of what the player needs to do.
Whether you are a player or a coach, when in doubt … search for and eliminate the wasted motion.
